What to Expect at Your Assessment

An assessment is the starting point for every new swimmer at In The Deep. Here's what to expect when you arrive.

What happens at an assessment

Your child will spend about 10 minutes in the water with one of our instructors. There's no pressure and nothing to prepare — our instructor will guide your child through a few simple activities to get a feel for their current skills and comfort in the water.

A supervisor observes from poolside and uses what they see to recommend the right class level for your child.

The booking block is 15 minutes, which gives you time to arrive, get settled, and have a quick chat with our team before and after.

What to bring

  • Swimwear and a swimming cap (required for all swimmers — available to purchase at the pool)
  • A swim nappy if your child is under 3 (available to purchase at the pool)
  • A towel and a change of clothes

After the assessment

We'll let you know which level is the right fit and help you find a class. If the class you'd like isn't available, we'll add your child to the waitlist.
